Healthier VS. Healthy

This is a great example of food trickery at its best. There are no hard regulations on food products claiming they are healthier options. One might hope that this claim had a baseline of nutritional requirement, but alas it does not. It seems the only requirement is that the product contains a minuscule amount of something that is considered healthy or that it contains lower levels or none of something that is considered less healthy.

To be hyperbolic I will give you this example of how the statement “healthier” can be used.

Vodka could be sold as the “Healthier” intoxicant, as it is not as “Unhealthy” as Heroine because it is not as addictive and more difficult to overdose on. More realistically Light Beer is a prime example, marketed as healthier, but…….do I have to explain it???

Most times I think common sense would tell you when the claim of being healthier is merely a marketing ploy. Some of the products I am referring to are –

Pasta made with vegetables: ie: KD Smart, or Catelli Smart

Bread Made with Vegetables: ie: Dempsters Garden Vegetable Bread

Reduced Fat Cereals; ie: Kashi Go Lean
